Gbenga Ezekiel bagged multiple awards as NRSF completed the First Rope Skipping League in the World

The Nigeria born GWR Holder Gbenga Ezekiel has demonstrated his prowess again at the just concluded first ever Rope Skipping League organized by the Nigeria Rope Skipping Federation. Gbenga secured 28% of his team Amabutho Jumpers Accumulated Discipline Points (ADP). Each team was made up of 10 players and Amabutho Jumpers finished top of the League table with Nine Game Points from Four matches. Gbenga emerged the Skipper with highest discipline points haven accumulated One hundred points in the League. His incredible performance of scoring 28 maximum Discipline Points in Two matches earned him the prestigious King of the Match Awards in addition to his Dual Album victory. ‘

Nine Clubs that featured in the he league are BOLTAD Rope Skipping Club, Synergy Rope Skipping Club, Amabutho Jumpers, and Kemrose Rope Skipping Club. Others are Vincenzo Rope Skipping Club, Kings Rope Skipping Club and Oyemekun Knights Jump Rope Club, while the rest are JC Rope Skipping Club and LEMA Rope Skipping Club.
The Four week long league held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Ondo State Sports Complex Akure commenced with Coaches and Judges courses from May 1st 2023. Solomon Philip the second Nigeria GWR holder and Captain of JC Rope Skipping Club also proved his presence by propelling his club to secure second position, while Kemros Rope Skipping Club finished third of the table..

Speaking on the development and outstanding achievements being recorded by Nigerian Rope Skippers at the global scene, the President of the Federation, Mr. Dayo Oyewo said Nigeria is indeed making history in Rope Skipping haven produced Two Guinness World Record Holders and also becoming the first country in the world to unveil Rope Skipping League. He added that the concept of league was conceived to engage the vibrant youths and also create a career pathway for them to thrive.

Reacting to the development, the General Manager of Ondo State Sports Council Mr Henry Babatunde expressed the satisfaction of the State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu towards the achievements of Nigerian Rope Skippers at the global level and affirmed his readiness to boost Rope Skipping in the State He also appreciated the Nigeria Rope Skipping Federation for choosing Ondo State to unveil Rope Skipping League and hopes to see more competitions of such magnitude hold in the State. In conclusion he said a sport like Rope Skipping should not be left out of the National Sports Festival, University Games and School Sports to give millions of Nigerian youth ample opportunity to develop their talents.
